The discovery of Solitons have radically changed the thinking of scientists about the nature of nonlinearity and has brought together many branches of mathematics. After an introduction of the soliton phenomenon, we will examine the solitary-wave solutions of equations of Benjamine-Bona-Mahony type which model propagations of water waves of small amplitude and large wave length. We will see that solitary-wave solutions exist and are stable for a large class of equations of BBM type.
